About Oldenbears

 

This great old teddy bear (above) has never had a name. When I was 6, he was bought for me by my Mother in a  funny old London department store, and cost just under £4. I loved him the moment I saw him, and immediately learned to knit, so that I could make him a nice stripey jumper! I still have him and he has been the main inspiration behind Oldenbears....

Based in Hertfordshire, Oldenbears was born in 1994. Our main work is restoring old teddy bears who have fallen on hard times! We also have our own range of hand-made vintage-style teddy bears.

The very first Teddy Bear that I ever made was 'Smiler,' a 1940's design taken from a period toymaking book and made from pink vintage velveteen for a very special little girl. (This little girl is now grown up and still has Smiler, who has just celebrated his 31st birthday!)
